Nuoro dresses up to celebrate the 118 of the Redentore’s Festival
From August 21st to 29th, a rich calendar of events to celebrate one of the most evocative festivals in Sardinia, including traditional music, Sardinian poetry, aromas and authentic flavors.
Today, the celebrations dedicated to the arrival of the Redeemer in the barbaricino capital open today. In 1900, on the occasion of the Jubilee, Pope Leo XIII expressed the desire to crown 19 peaks of Italy with the image of Christ the Redeemer. Created by the Calabrian sculptor Vincenzo Jerace, the bronze statue was placed on Mount Ortobene and consecrated in 1901 and is the result of the faith and generosity of the Sardinian people who, quoting themselves, collected the necessary funds for the construction of the monument.
To date, that of the Redentore is a party that, among religious and folkloristic celebrations, manages to attract thousands of tourists every year, actively involving not only the Barbagia, but the entire island.
